DEFINING POSITIVE HIP HOP VIDEO SCRIPT
Well it’s Sept 19. 2009, I went public as a performing artist and launched
REID RECORDS Music and Entertainment in Jan 2008. Since then, I wrote 12 new
songs, released my 2nd CD and performed 40 shows throughout the city
of Pittsburgh delivering my new brand of Hip Hop. So if you don’t know who I
am, what I stand for, or what I’m bringing to the city of Pittsburgh and to the
World, then this message is for you.
My Name is Marcus Reid and I’m
introducing you to Positive Hip Hop …I’m introducing you to a new way to
appreciate Hip Hop as a genre of music and not just as the anthem for the
streets …B/c Hip Hop has so much more to offer to the world, and has so much
more potential, in its ability to connect with our youth, our communities, and
our society. So we as the artists need to recognize the important role that we
play in shaping our culture and depicting how we see and live life. So its time
that we paint a better picture; and its time that we make a better connection.
So let me connect to my mission and give you the definition of Positive Hip
Hop?

do. That’s my role.
But for you young artists and rappers out there today; you don’t need to be a
mentor to do Positive Hip Hop, You simply need to rap your story of what
has allowed you to overcome the obstacles in your life. Rap about what person,
what event, what situation has changed your perspective and given you a new
sense of hope, a new sense of direction and the motivation for you do the right
thing while reaching for your dreams. We all have had hardships in our life, so
we all have a story to tell. Some stories will be good and others will be bad.
But it can be your story, being rapped over a beat, that makes a difference in
the streets, and make a difference in the life of another human being… and
that’s what defines positive Hip Hop
So for those that have seen me perform live, you know without I doubt, I love to
perform, I love to entertain, and I love to make music, but this is more than
just about music.
It’s about using my talents to create a better environment for our youth, our
families, and our communities.
It’s about reshaping the Product of Hip Hop from Negative to Positive.
Because The Hip Hop Productis shaped by the artists, and the
artists are shaped by their Environment. So in order to better the product, we
need to first better the environment in which the artists come from.
And for the majority of today’s Hip Hop artists, a negative environment is all
they know…it was their childhood, or it is their everyday life. So trying to
re-write their life stories that have written today’s Hip Hop Product would be
like trying to reverse a train of dominos that has been falling for years, and
years, and years.
So my mission is to start a new track, with a new set of dominos; and
those new dominos are our children, the next generation of Hip Hop; The Next
Generation of Artists and Entertainers that we’ll speak to us thru the music.
So I need to make sure that their message is clear. I need to make sure that
their words are sincere. So when they speak into the mic, their soul/words
is/are alright, and their light that will shine will be Positive in their
rhymes.
So I will paint this
picture for them, and I will do what I need to do, to make sure that this
