 BIO

Marcus A Reid

Born: 9.12.1980

Age: 28

Sign: Virgo

IN THE BEGINNING, the raw talent and music potential was there since birth, but a music career for Marcus Reid was not a “twinkle” in his eye until late in his teens.

At age 8, the image of a performer, the soul of music, and the passion to entertain, was introduced and colorfully illustrated by his mother, a singer and church choir soprano, rehearsing weekend nights in the den room of their home in Natrona Heights, PA.

At age 17, during his senior year of high school, the potential that lay dormant in his soul began to come alive and he was compelled to take the stage and sing before he graduated. That spring, Marcus sang his first official solo in front of a packed auditorium at their year-end Spring Fling Choral Concert. He sang the song One Day You’ll Be Mine by Usher from his CD “My Way”.  Despite the numbing and nervous feelings he had seconds before he took the stage, once the music started, he was instantly at peace and the artist inside of him took over.  “When I finished, the cheers and applause from the crowd was exhilarating! That's when my love for entertaining began." -Reid

At age 27, after 10 + years of exploring his talents, developing and defining his abilities, Marcus Reid had matured into a versatile and dynamic performer.  This marked the true beginnings of his music career.  Armed with passion and confidence, the one man show was ready to hit the Pittsburgh scene in full throttle in 2008.  He leaped at every opportunity to perform, seeking to gain more experience, exposure and credibility.  Each show ended with interested spectators asking who he was and where he was going.  As show opportunities blossomed and praises continued, Reid’s desire and commitment to push on multiplied.  By December of 2008 he had performed 25 shows; two of them for public schools giving birth to his Positive Hip Hop Program and opened the door for him to effectively “Mentor through the Music” (which he had longed to do) and provided a stable platform in which to entertain, educate and inspire young minds for years to come…

NOW in 2009,
Marcus Reid, 28, is a proven artist, entertainer and an emerging entrepreneur poised to take Hip-Hop to a higher level of integrity & music education by combining the “Role of a Rapper” with the “Message of a Mentor” to positively influence the Hip-Hop Community and to cultivate a new generation of artists and entertainers.

THE ARTIST: Marcus Reid aka TRM, The Renaissance Man, delivers energy, passion and inspiration with every performance! Combining the 3 elements of Rapping, Singing, and Hip hop Dance in every performance puts him in a class that only a few can enter. His un-quenching desire and ability to create lyrical stories that paint pictures of his life and the lives around him and melodically express them through his songs is simply a blessing from GOD! REID is a smart, educated gentleman and often goes deep into the English vocabulary when writing. He loves using clever analogies, sharp metaphors and play on words. "It's sophisticated RAP and Hip Hop."-Reid

THE ROLE MODEL: But what sets him apart from traditional RAP/HIP HOP artists is his humility and respect for his listeners. He never uses profanities or offensive language in any of his lyrics. Period.  No exceptions.  “This is how I was raised.  Cursing, sexual innuendos, and disrespect to my fellow brothers and sisters would be disrespecting my parents and grandparents teachings.  I believe in Unity and serving those that are less fortunate. My mission is to deliver good, positive music with meaningful lyrics. To create "Role Model Musicians" and be a role model for the youth and fellow artists.  "GOD has given me this assignment and the tools to carry it out. My Mission has begun." My 2nd Solo CD “TRM2: The Mission” releasing Feb 09

THE ENTREPRENEUR: His love for both Business and Music is a match made in heaven!  A Finance major Music minor from Univ. of Pitt, REID has a deep understanding of Business. But it didn’t require 4 years to receive it.  He mastered the art of Multi-tasking, time management and job-role playing.  He maintains all Cd sales, expenses, bookkeeping etc. in excel spreadsheets and business software programs. He handles all show bookings and agreements (booked 26 shows in 2008).
And he designs and maintains www.reidrecords.com, and www.myspace.com/reidrecords for e-commerce… ”I’m becoming a wiser and more experienced businessman everyday”

THE BUSINESS: REID RECORDS Music and Entertainment

“My vision for REID RECORDS started in 2001  after paying for studio time to record my first 2 songs at a home studio in Wilkinsburg.” He realized that with the technology today, he was able to purchase and assemble his own home studio, produce his own music,  provide recording services to others, and create and sale RR products and merchandise (Cd's, T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, visors  etc.)  He would package and distribute them locally himself until the volumes and revenue picked up, then expand his market and team.  “So with endless research, Q&A, observations and some key purchases, over the next few years.  I assembled my home studio and developed my business model.” . As the business slowly materialized, his skills, objectives, and his mission had time to take shape and be defined… RR is dedicated to providing Positive Music and Family Entertainment thru HIP-HOP, R&B, POP, and Christian Music as well as educating and Mentoring the Youth. Q. What does "TRM" stand for?    A. "THE RENAISSANCE MAN"

It comes from Italy during the 14th century, also known as "The Renaissance Period".

The Renaissance (ren' e sans'') n. 1. A rebirth, revival a. The humanistic revival of classical art, literature, and learning that originated in Italy in the 14th century.  2. Pertaining to characteristics of artistic and intellectual works and styles.

I've been reborn through Jesus Christ and shown the path that I must walk. And God willing, I will bring forth my talents, knowledge, artistry, and good works for the world to see and believe. I'm a Renaissance Man. As there has been others before me.

OTHER RENAISSANCE MEN:

LEoNardo Da vinci- (1452-1519)  a scientist, inventor, and artist. He wrote from right to left and was left handed.

Michelangelo- (1475-1564)  a sculptor, painter, architect, and poet.

THE HIS MUSIC:  HIP-HOP, R&B, POP, Christian

info being updated

CHOREOGRAPHY:

Choreo is alot harder than just freestyle dancing, which i'm used too.  It's the next level. A more structured dance routine that involves more timing and sequenced steps (8 counts). It's gonna take a few years for me to get comfortable to the point i can knock out a routine quickly, but that's my goal.  Currently, I'm only graphing  routines for my Solo performances, sorry i'm  not an instructor yet, i have not enough experience.

I've worked with two local choreographers  the last 3 years.   C. Sirota, in class, for two summers (02'-03') and we performed our 03' routine at  Penn State-New Ken campus.   And recently, Jim "BigWEAVE" Weaver, owner/instructor of NAKA FITNESS in East Liberty!  I'm acquiring  any dance videos i can get my hands on to incorporate new moves and styles. The movie "U got Served" and "Take it to the streets" instructional version, is in my player right now.  A daily dose of practice is setting the stage for an awesome show!   "Practice makes perfect" is my motto and one of the keys to success no matter what level you're at.. So let's get it on!...

MENTORING/ROLE MODEL:

Being an artist/entertainer it's human nature that you'll likely attract and appeal to the younger generations, which will come to be your fans. They will listen to your lyrics, watch your lifestyle, and imitate your actions. You become their  role model whether you intended to or not.  When you choose to voice your ideas and ways of living in the spotlight for all to hear and are  successful. You then gain the respect of your peers and become their voice. The young minds teeter-tauter on your words and actions. They are hooked!  Now where are you going to take them? You now have a responsibility.  "Practice what you preach!"

"A Positive message, leads to positive thinking. A negative message, leads to negative thinking."

I have chosen to aide my younger peers in their paths of education and to encourage them to do right...

HIS CHRISTIAN WALK:

I began envisioning a music career during college (1998) but it really began to materialize after i was baptized in 2002. Beginning a relationship with Jesus, knowing his story, has inspired me and has given me a motivation and drive like nothing i've ever imagined!...I'm dedicated Christian and obligated to the church. We recently started a Male Choir in 2008 and we sing every 4th Sunday. I'm also in charge of the Sound/Audio at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in New Kensington. i will be starting a church circuit in 2009 in which i will worship and perform at neighboring churches in my local areas of Allegheny County, Westmorland County and the City of Pittsburgh...more to come...

His Days Of Dredz...99'-03'

Yes, that's me with the Dreadlocks. And Yes, that's my real hair! I started twisting my hair in 99', In my dorm- room at Pitt.  I'd go to class with only half of my hair in twists and the other half an afro. This was my rebel phase I guess.  I was turning into The Renaissance Man and I needed a coming out party!   (I started writing alot of poetry in amidst of my "turning".  The poetry became lyrics-then the lyrics eventually became songs.)

As the semester went on, all of my hair was in small puff balls held in place by rubber bands that my mom helped me put in when i went home on the weekends.  I then  asked around campus and found a girl who could do dredz and help turn these small puff balls with rudder bands into "baby" dreadlocks (my hair wasn't that long yet).  So i went over to her apartment, said hello, she said hello.  She sat me down on the floor in front of her and she sat in a chair behind me and the process began...7 1/2 hours later, i'm hungry, my bum's numb and asleep! she was finally done. Now my hair, for the next 4 years, would never be the same...THE END.
